Here is where you can learn all about tents! The most common type of tent material is nylon. Nylon is popular because of its light weight, compact, waterproof design. Nylon tents come in all shapes and sizes including dome, A-frame, hoop and wedge and they can accommodate 1 to 12 or more people. The ease of pitching a nylon tent will vary from one style to another but they are all usually pretty easy to set up even when setting up by yourself. Another notable trait to nylon tents is what the poles are constructed of. some nylon tents have fiberglass poles while others have heavy duty steel poles, and some will use a combination of the two. Again there is advantages to both. Fiberglass is flexible and light weight and work great in windy climates. Steel poles are stronger and are able to hold more weight especially good for snow that my build up on the roof of the tent.

Canvas is another popular tent material that is used in tent construction. canvas is very durable for longterm use and is extremity resistant to the elements. A big downfall to canvas is the weight, some thens weighing upwards of 50 pounds. canvas tents also come in many construction types including Montana wall tent, flex-bow, and spike style tents. Canvas tents will always utilizes steel poles because Fiberglas is not strong enough to hold up the weight of the fabric. The only exception to this rule is that of spike tents because if applicable you can tie a rope to a tree to hold up the roof, in which case no poles are needed.
