Here is where you can learn all about tents! The most common type of tent material is nylon. Nylon is popular because of its light weight, compact, waterproof design. Nylon tents come in all shapes and sizes including dome, A-frame, hoop and wedge and they can accommodate 1 to 12 or more people. The ease of pitching a nylon tent will vary from one style to another but they are all usually pretty easy to set up even when setting up by yourself.  Another notable trait to nylon tents is what the poles are constructed of. some nylon tents have fiberglass poles while others have heavy duty steel poles, and some will use a combination of the two. Again there is advantages to both. Fiberglass is flexible and light weight and work great in windy climates. Steel poles are stronger and are able to hold more weight especially good for snow that my build up on the roof of the tent.

Canvas is another popular tent material that is used in tent construction. canvas is very durable for longterm use and is extremity resistant to the elements. A big downfall to canvas is the weight, some thens weighing upwards of 50 pounds. canvas tents also come in many construction types including Montana wall tent, flex-bow, and spike style tents. Canvas tents will always utilizes steel poles because Fiberglas is not strong enough to hold up the weight of the fabric. The only exception to this rule is that of spike tents because if applicable you can tie a rope to a tree to hold up the roof, in which case no poles are needed.

There are so many varieties of tents that are available on the market and every tent is designed for a different specific purpose. Some of the tents are very cheap in spite of the fact that they are so big in size while other tents are very costly notwithstanding their small size. All that matters is that the materials that are used to make the tents are quality materials. The stability of the tents depends highly on the fabric or more commonly known as the skin of the tent. Each tent is designed for a particular weather and we should be very careful in selecting a tent that it suits our bill.

There are some specific tents for the summer season and while others are designed for heavy snow. You should use the right tent for the right season and the right purpose. For instance you can’t use a tent meant to be used in the season of summer in a rainy season, if you embark on doing so then the tent may not last for long.

Summer tents are very light in weight and they are quite easy to pitch and usually has a skin made of nylon. Nylon is a self lubricating polymer, it does not rust and generally won’t wear with friction from trees. Nylon has a very low co efficient of friction which makes its surface very soft and easy to handle. Nylon is very resistant to water as well as to some chemicals. One of the disadvantages of nylon is the lack of strength against strong forces such as wind.

Family tents are as the name suggested, meant for families and they can house up to five to six people. Mountain tents are also very good when it comes to durability, and they can be used as a house for up to 6 continuous months without being damaged.

Three season tents are very widely used for all the seasons of the year and they withstand almost all kinds of seasons. They can be used for three of the four of the three seasons; spring, summer, and fall.
