A big downfall to canvas is the weight, some thens weighing upwards of 50 pounds. canvas tents also come in many construction types including Montana wall tent, flex-bow, and spike style tents. Canvas tents will always utilizes steel poles because Fiberglas is not strong enough to hold up the weight of the fabric. The only exception to this rule is that of spike tents because if applicable you can tie a rope to a tree to hold up the roof, in which case no poles are needed.
