Camping Tent Materials

Camping materials come in many different varieties and they should be well understood by the consumers before they go to buy them. This is one way of preventing yourself from being gulled by the shop keepers and it will help you big time while shopping for a tent. You can select the kind of tent you need by yourself without the help of others. Camping tent materials includes all the poles that are used to build the tent and also the tent material which is of course made of polymer material in most of the cases and the skin which is otherwise called the fabric should be very carefully selected.

The strength of the camping tent hinge, the number of poles, the kind of structure used in the tent design and also the pole material which in most of the cases is made out of stainless steel are all important attributes to the quality of tents. Tent poles are what give strength to the structure and we should exercise great care in selecting the right kind of pole material.

Often the material used in pole manufacturing is state of the art carbon fiber or carbon fiber reinforced matrices. This type of material is often called the engineering material. This carbon fiber material is very useful in reducing the weight of the camping gear to a great extent and carbon fibers are very resistant to weather and the solvents such as petrol diesel. Carbon fiber comes with an added disadvantage as it is very expensive when compared to other camping materials but this expense is offset by the fact that these carbon fiber poles offer a longer usable life.

The other common material is the aluminum alloy tubing. This is very popular and many canvas tent poles are made out of aluminum alloy tubing, the greatest advantage in this material is its shock resistance which means if you were to drop your camping material camp by chance there likely will be no damage.

Last but not least is the fiberglass which is astoundingly water resistant is very suitable for the rainy season and additionally it has the greatest scratch resistance among the pole materials. The different constructions are based on the number of walls and it are often classified into single wall and double wall construction classifications. The fabric or the skin which forms the ceiling part of the tent has to be very resistant to water and drastic climatic conditions such as a sunny day or a heavy rain. Before selecting the material for the pole you should be made aware of the strength of the pole material which may make your job easier. The strength is expressed in terms of denier which the standard unit of strength in western countries. Denier is otherwise understood as the weight in grams per unit length of the pole that is the weight in grams per one meter of the pole material.
